Web Cleaning Using
Corona Discharge
Purpose and function - The cleaning unit removes
loose particles such as dust, paper fibres etc. from
the surface of the media to be cleaned. Loose particles
are often attracted from the immediate surroundings
by the electrostatically charged material and then
adhere to the surface until there is a conductive
discharge.
In the case of non-conductive materials, such as
paper or plastics, the surface charge cannot be removed.
Since the material itself is a non-conductor, the
environment, in other words the air, has to be rendered
conductive.
This involves ionising the air using a very high
voltage. As a result the electrostatic charge on the
surface can be eliminated.
The cleaning system is contactless in operation.
The surface to be cleaned is not impaired. Using this
system allows higher production outputs to be achieved
by extending the intervals between washing processes
during printing and also leads to an improved printing
quality. |
